Mung bean grows very well with temperature 30-35 0 c. annual rainfall is 600-800 mm. Cannot tolerate frost. Rains during flowering aredetrimental (harmful) as it affects pollination and fertilization. Hot and humid climate with sufficient soil moisture is ideal, highly drought resistant.
Well drained, sandy to sandy loam soil is ideal. Alkaline, saline and water logged soil are not suitable. pH should be neutral.
One ploughing after harvest of previous crop followed by clod crushing and two harrowings. Stubble should be removed. Seedbed free from clods and stubbles. Apply 5 tones FYM /ha before last harrowing and well mix in soil.
a) Seed treated with Trichoderma vividi @5g/kg of seed to control soil borne diseases.
b) Seed treated with biofertilizer (Rhizobium) @250g/10kg of seed for enhancing activity of nitrifying bacteria towards atm N2.
c) Seed treated with PSB @250g/10kg of seed
Drilling is proper method of sowing.

Thinning should be done 15-20 days after sowing.
Weeding and hoeing
First hoeing is done 20-25 days after sowing.
Second hoeing is done 30-35 days after sowing.
After hoeing weeding should be done.
Apply 5 tones FYM /ha at the time of last harrowing. Apply 20 kg N : 40 kg P 2 O 5
(100 kg DAP /ha) at the time of sowing.
Water required 25-30 ha. cm crop is highly drought resistant but if there is long dry spell then give two irrigations at following 1 st irrigation flowering 30-35 days after sowing 2 nd irrigation pod filling stage 42-45 days after sowing .
1 st hoeing is done 20 days after sowing
2 nd hoeing is 30 days after sowing
And one hand weeding is necessary.

Carbendezum + 30% EC Dimethoate 500 ml in 500 liter of water /ha.
Aphids, Jassids, White fly, thrips- use od systemic insecticides. Monocrotophos @ 550 ml or dimethoate 400 ml or methyldemeton @ 320 ml in 500 liter of water.
crop matures in 60-65 days having non synchronous maturity should be harvested as and when they mature. Harvesting is done by picking in early morning or evening hrs to avoid shattering losses during handling of pods. Crop should not be allow to stand upto dead ripe stage otherwise there is considerable loss in yield. Generally two pickings are required to harvest the crop. 1 st picking when 75% pods are mature. 2 nd picking – 8-10 days after 1 st picking.
Harvested produce / pods are sundried and threshing is done by beating with wooden stick. Grains are clean by winnowing and dry in sun. Moisture content in seed should not be less than 12% before storing.
Average yield is 12-15 Qtls/ha
